Ao terem a possibilidade, no começo de 1976, de ler este livro, logo os tradutores se deram conta do seu muito interesse (aliás comprovado junto de vários colegas), para os estudantes que, sem grande formação nos domínios da física, matemática e geologia, necessitavam de conhecer como a dinâmica da Terra estava sendo encarada.
A possibilidide de leitura deste livro por várias camadas de estudantes com uma preparação mínima, levou-os a procurar traduzi-lo, o que iniciaram nesse mesmo ano. A tradução procurou seguir a estrutura da escrita do autor por se reconhecer que a riqueza pedagógica do texto residia na vivacicade da mesma por recurso a frases curtas e secas. A tradução dum livro destes nem sempre é fácil, pois não existe terminologia científica adaptada na língua portuguesa e os tradutores tendem, por deformação, a abreviar a explicação. (...) o nosso primeiro juízo estava certo, como prova a tiragem (2º edição esgotada), compartilhando a esperança do autor em despertar o interesse de alunos com a diversa preparação para um melhor conhecimento do meio em que habitam.
